2017 Convallis Ranch & Winery L'etalon Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley
“The Stallion” is our bold, ripe Cabernet Sauvignon from our warmer vineyard locations. On the nose, experience an immediate wave of bright fruit and violet notes with a hint of cocoa powder. On the palate, enjoy a rich, fleshly mouthfeel with apparent voluptuousness enabled by the warm climate. The taste is reminiscent of chocolate-covered cherries, as the alluvial soils tend to impart a rich chocolate note.
About Convallis Ranch & Winery: We named our ranch Convallis after the latin word for valley because we feel Alexander Valley a special place. Alexander Valley is not a particularly pronounced valley, but it is impressively long and wide. On a map, the area is comprised of the benchlands east of the Russian River leading up to the Mayacamas Mountains. The alluvial soil, deposited here from thousands of years of the river changing course, have left various pockets and layers of minerals, making the choice of vineyard plot crucially important. Our vineyards are some of the oldest in the AVA and include a mix of elevations. Our vineyards closest to the river are cooled by the fog off the Russian River in the mornings, while our plots slightly east are some of the warmest in Sonoma.
