Old-School Style in a Revered Vineyard
Nestled over 2,000 feet up near the peak of Spring Mountain, Barnett is an under-the-radar winery famous for its elegant, dark Cabernets that speak to the original style of Napa—a style that perfectly balances ripeness with spice and nuance. It’s no surprise that their Sangiacomo Vineyard Chardonnay from Carneros is right in line with their house style.
The Sangiacomo family’s history in California stretches back to 1927, when the Italian immigrant Vittorio Sangiacomo purchased a 52-acre fruit-tree ranch in Sonoma Valley. The family struggled through the Great Depression, but in the following decades became the largest pear growers in Sonoma County. As pear prices declined, the family, looking to diversify their plantings, decided to plant grapes. In 1969, the Green Acres Vineyard in Carneros was born. By 1981, the family had completed their transition to grape-growing, and today, their Green Acres Vineyard is prized by clients like Rombauer and Frank Family.
Winemaker David Tate is the perfect man to usher Barnett into the bottle. He not only has experience in Australia’s Barossa Valley, Provence, and New Zealand, but he spent five years as assistant winemaker at Ridge crafting Monte Bello, perhaps California’s most famous and admired mountain Cabernet—and an exceptional Chardonnay too.
If you didn’t know Barnett until right now—well, that’s why we call it an insider Chardonnay. And we’re called Wine Access because we love to bring insider wines like this one to you. With a ripe and rich nose of baked apple, lemon peel, tropical fruit, honeysuckle, brioche, and vanilla, the palate is full and lush with a creamy texture. This fantastic Chardonnay will keep drinking well through 2035.
