Man, the Stories
Bruce Cohn—man, that guy must have some stories.
As the manager of the Doobie Brothers throughout the 1970s, we can only imagine the good times he’s witnessed. He bought an old dairy in Glen Ellen in 1974 to get some peace, and before too long, Charlie Wagner of Caymus took him under his wing as Bruce shifted focus to grapegrowing. Helen Turley was his founding winemaker, and even Merry Edwards made wine here in the 1980s.
This outstanding Cabernet hails from one of the most flawless vintages Napa Valley has ever seen. It’s a Kosher Cabernet, which is a true blessing—you don’t see many wines with that label coming out of Napa Valley, especially boasting the kind of quality for which BR Cohn is known.
This bottle is Kosher but is not Mevushal, meaning that it has not been flash-pasteurized, an important distinction. It was produced using only Kosher certified methods and products.
After a 72-hour cold soak, the grapes were fermented and then only the free-run and light-press juice were kept for this wine. It was aged 22 months in 50% new and 50% one- and two-year old tight-grain French oak barrels from Taransaud. These gold-standard vessels are produced in France using only certified materials and practices.
